memorial dAy

No event in American history is more misunderstood than the Vietnam War. It was misreported then, and it is misremembered now. --Richard M. Nixon, 1985

While BBQ pits blaze a fire from across the u.s I'm reflecting on our past, present and future wars. Whether its a war within self,a envious competition between races or a blood shed fight. What matters most is that war does excist in the world. So,here i am today giving my respect to our lost and fallen soldiers on this day of remeberence. I mean, this is the meaning of memorial day right? While my Nana lights her annual white candle and hangs her British flag i am inspired to drop some knowledge. If you know me personally than you will know that I am a 60s love child that someway got trapped into the new millennium. So,it will only be right to reflect on one of the longest and unpopular wars "THE VIETNAM WAR" Flashback into the sixties aka the psychedelic times where social movements were growing and anti war protests were as common as a new design from londons best designer mary quant. These were the times when humanity actually cared to speak up and take a stand. It was the years of true revolution and intergrity. In todays world there are alot of false flower power children living amongst us. Many people are oblivious to where "love not war" saying origanted from. So,for all of you questionable human beings who have no idea what it meant to live outside the box. Here is something to reflect on this memorial day besides trying to steal uncle bobbys homemade BBQ sauce.

EDUCATION 101 aka DID YOU KNOW?
The Timeline
1965-1968 - The Jungle Years
1969-1975 - The Bitter End

The begining:
The conflict's roots took shape in July 1954, when France was forced out of Vietnam after one hundred years of colonial rule. In the peace process, the country was partitioned into northern and southern sections, with a U.S.-supported government in the south and a communist republic in the Norths of America to defending the fledgling democratic government of South Vietnam.

Fearing the spread of communism, President Kennedy committed the people of the United States of America to defending the fledgling democratic government of South Vietnam. Despite its arguably noble intentions, the war in Vietnam would prove the greatest challenge to American democratic idealism since the Civil War.

The Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia claimed the lives of more than 58,000 Americans another 304,000 were wounded

The financial cost to the United States came to over $150 billion dollars in war cost.

The resolution:
The war was fought between the communist Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North Vietnam) and its communist allies and the US-supported Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam). It concluded with the defeat and dissolution of South Vietnam after North Vietnam violated the 1973 cease-fire agreement and invaded the South in 1975 after US forces had largely withdrawn. For the United States, the war effectively ended in the withdrawal of American troops and the failure of its foreign policy in Vietnam. On April 30, 1975, the capital of South Vietnam, Saigon, fell to the communist forces of North Vietnam, effectively ending the Vietnam War.

In closing of my entry today ..
from the words of my grandmother who is a world war 2 survivor " many gave their lives so that we may have the freedom that we have today and to the veterans of ALL wars god bless you"
